Over the last 12 months, we’ve all spent a lot more time in our homes than usual.
But with non-essential shops expected to reopen in England on April 12 and the possibility of households mixing indoors in May, now could be the perfect opportunity to get your home ready for guests before lockdown ends.
So what can you do right now to get ready for your home makeover?
- Get inspired
With fewer options for spending your free time than usual, these next few weeks are ideal for getting inspiration for your home. Having a flick through a home decorating magazine or browsing Pinterest and Instagram is a really simple way of getting ideas and working out what you’d like to do with your own living space. Create a mood board of ideas for each room you aim to tackle – pulling together the different things you love will help you work out a central theme and colour scheme.
- Have a spring clean
Before you get started on the decorating, take the opportunity to give your home a thorough spring clean and clear out any clutter. Sort through any things you no longer want and sell them online or set them aside to take to a charity shop when they are allowed to reopen next month. Tidying up your space and doing all those little cleaning jobs you don’t always get around to will give you a great starting point for your makeover.
- Start a shopping list
Fortunately, DIY stores and garden centres have been allowed to trade throughout the current lockdown. This should mean you can get the basics like painting walls or changing wallpaper done before the restrictions are relaxed. Many of the shops which are not open at the moment are still operating online and may even offer a click and collect service. For those items you can’t get until the non-essential shops reopen, make a list so you can hit the ground running and get what you need in April.
- Think about your sofa
If you’re planning to give your living room a new look, buying a new sofa can have a dramatic impact. Furniture shops and sofa showrooms are expected to reopen on April 12 but you can research shapes, styles and colours now so you have a good idea of what you are looking for when you can check them out in person. If you just can’t wait, some of La-Z-Boy’s products are available now in our online store.
- Look at things from a new perspective
If you’re desperate for a change right now and you haven’t got the budget for a makeover, give your living space a fresh look by rearranging the furniture. Changing the position of your sofa, swapping the pictures hanging on your walls and restyling your shelves can all liven up a room you’ve become bored with and make it seem like a different space.
