Don’t worry if you haven’t managed to get tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympics, it’s easy to enjoy the iconic sporting event from the comfort of your own home.
Most of the action will be shown for free on the BBC, starting with the opening ceremony on the banks of the River Seine and finishing on August 11. This means you can sit back and relax in your La-Z-Boy recliner and watch your favourite events on TV.
BBC One will be screening Olympics coverage from 8am to 10pm each day of the tournament from Saturday, July 27, with the action shifting to BBC Two during news bulletins. However, if the event you want to watch isn’t being shown, you may be able to find it on BBC iPlayer, which will include an Olympics Extra channel during the tournament.
There is also further coverage on Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2 and Discovery+, although all three of those channels are only available to paid subscribers.
In total, 10,500 athletes will be competing in the Olympics, including 327 members of Team GB, who will be hoping to win medals for Great Britain.
Who should I be watching from Team GB?
Which athlete you’re eager to watch will depend on the sports you’re most interested in. But there are a number of well-known faces competing, including British tennis player Andy Murray who will be retiring at the end of the Olympic Games.
The three-time Grand Slam champion has withdrawn from the singles competition but he will be playing alongside Dan Evans in the doubles.
Diver Tom Daly will be competing in the Men’s 10m synchro on Monday (July 29), while double gold medallist Jade Jones will be trying to become the first taekwondo fighter to win a third gold when she fights on August 8.
Gymnast Max Whitlock will be defending the title he won in Tokyo on the Men’s pommel horse on August 3. He already has three Olympic golds on this apparatus under his belt and is hoping to win a fourth.
Athletics fans will be paying close attention to Dina Asher-Smith, who has a chance of winning gold in three different events. She will be running in the 100m on August 2-3, the 200m on August 4-6 and the 100m relay on August 8-9.
Teenage skateboarder Sky Brown is one of the youngest members of Team GB at just 16. After teaching herself to skateboard from watching YouTube, Sky will be seeing if she can do even better than the bronze she won in Tokyo when she competes on August 8.
And Keely Hodgkinson has gone from being an underdog in Tokyo to a favourite for winning a gold medal in Paris. Running the women’s 800m on August 2-5, Keely is thought to be on top form and definitely one to watch on the track.
If the thought of all this sport makes you feel exhausted, remember rest and relaxation is also essential to maintain good mental and physical health. La-Z-Boy UK’s Long Live the Lazy campaign celebrates the importance of taking time to unwind and prioritise self-care.
