How to plan the perfect lazy Valentine’s Day

An estimated 32.7 million people in the UK are planning to do something to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year according to Finder.com. But this can mean typical date night venues are even more crowded and expensive than usual.

Spending time with the person you love in the comfort of your own home can be just as special as an expensive night out. Here’s La-Z-Boy UK’s guide to planning the perfect lazy Valentine’s Day.

  1. Find the perfect spot to cuddle up together

Make sure you have somewhere you can curl up together and enjoy each other’s company. The perfect place to spend time with your Valentine should be a cosy corner where you can make yourself comfortable, sit back and forget about the world around you. Our love seats are ideal for loved up couples – a large comfortable armchair with plenty of space for two if you don’t mind cuddling up together. With seven different love seats, all handcrafted in the UK, to choose from, we’re certain you can find your new favourite snuggle spot.

  2. Be fully present

The most important gift you can give the person you love is your full attention. Switch off your phone, block out your diary, send your kids to the grandparents – whatever it takes to mean you can focus on each other without being distracted. While you might want to watch a romantic film or enjoy a nice meal, leave some time to have a proper conversation and really listen to each other. Research carried out in 2020 found that one in five married couples spent less than half an hour a day talking to each other. Life can be busy so slow down and spend time with each other.

  3. Create the right atmosphere

Staying at home doesn’t mean it can’t be special. You can still create a romantic atmosphere with soft lighting, candles, background music and decorations. One big plus is that you won’t end up being interrupted by a waiter or crammed onto a table within touching distance of other couples seeking their own romantic moments. Create your own playlist of Valentine’s love songs or play some jazz or classical music to set the right tone for the occasion.

  4. Keep the menu simple

Good food is often the cornerstone of any Valentine’s Day celebration, whether you are staying in or going out. But do yourself a favour and leave any long and complex recipes for another occasion, otherwise you’ll spend most of your time slaving away in the kitchen. Order a takeaway, buy easy-to-cook meals you can simply pop in the oven or if you want to cook, do as much preparation as you can in advance or make it an activity you can enjoy doing together.
