Like with all furniture in your home, it’s important that you take care of your La-Z-Boy products to help avoid unnecessary wear and tear or potential damage.

Below is some advice on looking after your La-Z-Boy furniture, along with some hints and tips on how to make your purchases last.

La-Z-Boy leather products

If you’ve chosen one or more of our leather products, there are a few important things to keep in mind.

Genuine leather will show natural marks, which are not faults and should be seen as unique characteristics to your purchase. Leather is also naturally inclined to stretch, which can show as creasing on cushion tops. On deep-buttoned furniture this can lead to opening of pleats, which is completely normal for this type of upholstery.

When it comes to generally looking after your leather sofa or armchair, wiping regularly with a soft cloth or duster will keep it dust-free. If soiled, you should wipe it down gently with a damp cloth and dry immediately with a soft cloth.

Leather care kits are available, and how often you use these depends on your lifestyle and use of the products. If you keep your La-Z-Boy furniture in a dry place such as near a radiator, you may also want to condition it with proprietary hide food once a year.

La-Z-Boy fabric products

If you’ve opted for a fabric sofa or armchairs, there are certain steps you can take to care for your products.

The arms can receive a good deal of wear over time, and head pillows can become soiled by hair, oil or grease. Matching arm caps and headset covers can help prevent wear to these areas.

If a thread from your furniture becomes snagged in any way, you should cut it short so it will not be noticeable, rather than pulling the fabric further.

When it comes to cleaning, we recommend this is done regularly to keep the colours bright. Upholstery should be vacuumed and softly brushed. Stiff brushes and wet cleaning are not recommended.

And like with leather, some fabric products have their own characteristics. Acrylic velvets will crush and crease, creating random shading, which is nothing to worry about.

General hints and tips

There are plenty of other general hints to keep your furniture looking its finest:

• Avoiding sunlight - Over time, sunlight can fade your furniture, so to protect it you should keep it out of the direct glare of the sun or make sure that blinds and curtains are closed where possible.

 

• Move furniture carefully – If you’re moving house, having a reshuffle, or simply looking for your keys under your sofa or armchair, be careful when it comes to moving your furniture. Dropping or bumping it could cause lasting damage, and if you think moving a particular item is a two-person job it’s better to get a friend to lend a hand.
