Sunday August 10th is the most chilled day of the year – and the perfect moment to make a date with your La-Z-Boy recliner.
National Lazy Day prioritises all things relaxing, and with this year’s event falling on a Sunday, what better opportunity to reclaim your me-time.
This Sunday, set aside meal prep, skip your Sunday reset and make your to-do list all about you. Maybe there’s a book you’ve been meaning to finish, or a box set you’ve been itching to get stuck into. Stuck on a level of your favourite game? Or have you been craving a takeaway all week? Now’s your time to get those truly important tasks ticked off.
Make Friday and Saturday your ‘doing days’. Pop to the shops or get your grocery delivery ordered, plan ahead for your tasks for the week and get that load of laundry in, so that this National Lazy Day you can relax both physically and mentally.
Studies have shown that people can often experience guilt at the thought of taking time out of their routines to focus on themselves. So, last year, La-Z-Boy partnered with psychiatrist and author of ‘Practical Optimism: The Art, Science and Practice of Exceptional Wellbeing’, Dr Sue Varma to encourage people to make laziness a part of their self-care routine.
“Growing up, many of us were taught that our worth is tied to hard work, leaving us to navigate the prioritisation of rest and relaxation on our own,” Dr Varma said.
“As a result, we often feel guilty when we take time to kick back. However, our self-worth exists simply because we do, and it is scientifically proven that rest is essential for longevity, productivity, and overall wellness.
“Whether it’s a meditation pillow on the floor or the comfort of your favourite recliner, I recommend creating dedicated spaces in our homes — or ‘zen dens’, as I like to call them — that allow us to slip into moments of leisure and relaxation guilt-free.”
