The travel-free guide to enjoying the 2026 World Cup at home

With the World Cup just days away from starting, you may be wondering how you can make the most of the tournament without having to fly out to the United States, Mexico or Canada.

High ticket prices and rising travel costs mean most football fans will be enjoying the FIFA World Cup 2026 from the comfort of their own living room. And La-Z-Boy UK has put together a guide to enjoying the matches without having to leave your sofa.

1. Know where and when to watch your team

England’s first match of the tournament is against Croatia on Wednesday, June 17 at 9pm. While the game is taking place in Texas, fans will be able to watch the teams go head to head on ITV1.

England’s second game takes place at 9pm on Tuesday, June 23 against Ghana and will be shown on BBC1. The third group stage game is against Panama on Saturday, June 27. This match has a later kick off of 10pm and will be televised live on ITV1.

Scottish fans will be able to watch their national team compete in the World Cup for the first time in 28 years. The Tartan Army will be playing against Haiti on Sunday, June 14.

There is some bad news for those in Scotland though as the game doesn’t start until 2am when it will be shown live on BBC.

Scotland’s second game starts at 11pm on Friday, June 19 against Morocco on BBC. And the third match of the group stage for Scotland is against Brazil on Wednesday, June 24.

This clash may bring back bad memories for Scottish fans as the squad were beaten by Brazil the last time they competed in the World Cup in 1998. Kicking off at 11pm, the game will be shown live on ITV.

All 104 World Cup matches can also be streamed via BBC iPlayer and ITVX. And the World Cup final on July 19 will be broadcast by both BBC1 and ITV1 with kickoff at 10pm.

2. Think comfort

With all the World Cup matches taking place in the evening or even during the night, make sure you have a comfortable spot to watch the game. 3. Stock up on snacks

Finger foods and easy to eat snacks will help you keep your energy levels up without taking your focus away from what’s happening on the pitch. Some brands have even come up with special edition versions of their snacks ready for the World Cup. This includes Walkers crisps, which has just revealed three new flavours for the tournament – English Bangers & Mash, Spanish Queso and Portuguese Chorizo and Onion. Meanwhile Wotsits have a limited edition Golden Balls version where the cheese puffs been reimagined to look like footballs.

While pizzas, chips and burgers are likely to remain the go-to matchday food for many fans, you may want to try whipping up some international options inspired by the teams playing. World Football Food 2026 is a new cookbook featuring recipes from all 48 nations taking part in the tournament.

4. Create a party atmosphere

Bring the World Cup atmosphere to your living room by inviting friends and family over and adding some football or international-themed decorations like bunting, flags and wall banners. Add to the fun by organising a sweepstake, dividing up the competing teams between you and follow their progress through the tournament.

Consider bringing a coolbox or mini fridge into your living room so you all have plenty of drinks on hand without having to miss the action on the screen. But most of all, just relax and enjoy!
