La-Z-Boy UK is already a sponsor of Burnley FC and the team were keen to do more to help sport in the community, particularly among young people. As our factory is based in Colne, Lancashire, we donated 20 footballs to the children’s football squads at Colne FC.
Staff were then asked to nominate schools and clubs in Colne and the surrounding area which they felt would benefit from a donation of footballs.
A total of 50 balls were given to teams which had been nominated by our employees. Three primary schools in Colne – Park, West Street and Lord Street – each received 10 footballs, while another 10 were given to Trawden Forest Primary School in Trawden.
A donation of 10 footballs was also made to the youth squad at Barnoldswick Town Football Club.
Richard Greenwood, managing director of La-Z-Boy UK, said: “Getting involved in community initiatives and supporting good causes is an important part of the work we do at La-Z-Boy UK. Ever since we bought the factory in Colne in October 2021, we have taken our responsibility as a major local employer seriously and looked for opportunities where we can give something back to the area.”
In addition to the donation of footballs, we have also given an armchair to Casual Minds Matter, a mental health charity which provides counselling and psychotherapy to people in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. The chair will be raffled off to raise much needed funds to help raise awareness of mental health issues and ensure people in the area are getting the support they need.
And Pendleside Hospice, which delivers specialist and holistic palliative care to people with life-limiting illnesses in the Burnley area, has received a $500 donation through the La-Z-Boy Cares initiative.
